Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), Civil service in the Indian subcontinent originated from the British Empire (1858 - 1947). The partition of 1947, East Bengal (Bangladesh) became a part of Pakistan, So 'Pakistan has Central Superior Services of Pakistan' it becomes Bangladesh Civil Service, after the independence of Bangladesh. The main policy maker and recruitment body of BCS is Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC).

 

The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) is a quasi judicial body established in 1972 under the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

 

The BCS exam happens nationwide and it highly competitive examination in Bangladesh conducted by the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC). It has three core stages that take approximately 1.5 to 2 years to finish.

Total Cadres of BCS: 26 (General Cadres: 10+Professional Cadres: 12+Cadres with Both General & Professional Posts: 4).

The BCS examination is the most competitive job examination in Bangladesh. On an average, 150,000 to 250,000 candidates apply every year and the percentage of candidates appearing is roughly 90%. Aspirants must complete a three-stage process, with a final success rate of about 0.02% for all cadres and 0.005% for general cadres, although it varies from years to years exam.

The examination is a three-phase process:



1. The preliminary exam

The first phase is known as the preliminary examination. This examination is test your skills in language (Bengali and English), Mathematical reasoning and Mental ability, general knowledge, ethics and governance, geological.

2. The written exam

Those making it past Phase I move on to the main phase, which is far more rigorous and includes nine compulsory subjects. This includes all the subjects you thought you had left behind.

If you're applying for a technical cadre job instead of a general one, however, the two Bengali papers are replaced by just one, and the general science section is omitted. Instead, you will need to sit for two extra papers relevant to the post you apply to. The total mark remains the same for both general and technical cadres.

3. Viva voce

Candidates who pass the written phase successfully are qualified for the interview commonly known as viva voce. Most people don't survive the first two stages of BCS, with a total mark of 200. Success rate in this rigorous phase is quite lower than other phases.

Final selection And Appointment

BPSC selects the candidates on the basis of the aggregated marks of written (obtained marks out of 900) and viva voce (obtained marks out of 200). BPSC makes a merit list for those who obtains pass mark in the written and viva exam. Preliminary marks is not considered in this regard. 45% of the selection was made on the basis of merit and rest 55% according to several quotas. But now that the quota system has been cancelled, 100% of the selection will be held based on merit. BPSC recommends the selected qualified candidates to the Ministry of Public Administration. The ministry publishes the gazette of the selected candidates after a rigorous inspection of medical test by DGHS. Police verification and NSI verification. Generally, the entire process from the advertisement to the final date of joining takes 1 year.
